Windows operating system has evolved over the years, and we have seen greater changes in the OS. The developers added an appealing visual interface that meets 2021 standards. Windows 10 probably the most beautiful operating system in the world and it includes Windows 10 mobile as well.
However, it does not offer any extra personalization out of the ecosystem such as a custom interface. Millions of people around the world love the old interface such as start menu, navigation, bottom navigation and the majority of the users disliked the eighth edition.
Rainmeter is a third-party tool available for Windows & it enables the users to add, edit, and customize the desktop or home. Hundreds of skins are available for free, and you can download them to use it to make the machine look modern & different.
What is Rainmeter?
The free program enables the users to add a custom interface on the desktop only. The imagination of the human tested with the program. Add customizable skin & fully functional audio visualizers, CPU meters feed, modern clock, and more.
First, go to skins site to browse & download the customizable template for the machine. Majority of the skins are available for free, so do not hesitate to add them to the bucket list. The file size of the skins starts from 1 MB to 50 MB.
Performance & Minimum Requirements
Every program comes with a minimum requirement set.
- There is a doubt that the skin depends on the CPU.
- I don’t recommend using the software on low-end machines such as Dual-core processors.
- Make sure the machine has at least 4 GB of RAM & 1 GB free RAM. We open many programs, and there are plenty of apps & software running in the background.
- The CPU usage & RAM usage depends on the skins.
Even though Rainmeter skins work smoothly on old computers and newer machines, but I recommend running the entire concept on newer hardware.
How To Use Rainmeter?
The users have to install the latest version of Rainmeter on the Windows PC and make sure to download one of the favorite skins available out there. Make sure to create a restore point on your machine as a safe side. Also, ensure that there is nothing on the desktop like folders, files, recycle bin, documents, and images.
Backing up the desktop items is necessary because we need a neat & clean design. Auto-hide the desktop as well because the majority of the skins contain full-screen interface such as a launcher. In my case, I am going to use a launcher to make my machine look a little different.
Step 1: Download & Install the program and keep the template ready to use. You can also checkout our top rainmeter skins.
Step 2: After installation, you will notice a few small widgets on your home screen, and it contains a clock, CPU meter, disk usage (including partitions), and more.
Step 3: I assume that you have download skins and the Rainmeter automatically detects it. Click on the icon to start the installation.
Step 4: The launcher shows up on your screen and makes sure to read & select everything ticked to install the new interface. You can uninstall the interface anytime from the program settings. Do not worry about the changes because you can always access the control panel to uninstall the program. Uninstalling Rainmeter erases everything.
Step 5: The layout installs in a few seconds, and the changes are visible on your screen. You can begin editing the entire layout, and it takes a few minutes for you to learn the interface.
Remember, it might look a little intimating at first glance, but if you spend fifteen minutes playing around with the options to master it.
How To Use Customize A Skin?
The interface is new for many of you, and it does intimate a little. However, anyone can master the controls and add excellent widgets to the computer. In a few steps, it might get a little complicated, but once you try it yourself, then it is a piece of cake for the user. The first steps are always the difficult one for the non-technical users.
Step 1: Click on the main interface to change the paths of the icons such as VLC Media player .exe file location. Normally, the skin does not locate the VLC media player location automatically because they are simple icons placed on the desktop. Locate the file in programs files and paste the link inside it, and save it.
Step 2: To edit skin, you can select the skin > to right-click mouse for more options > click on edit skin, and start editing it.
Step 3: Accessing the Rainmeter within the interface is possible. Even though it doesn’t offer plenty of options, but it enables the users to edit the overall structure. Increasing the transparency, layouts, refresh skin, and more.
The number of options available for the skins depends on the layout. The developer, who created it in the first place, has to offer the functions or else, you won’t find it.
There are hundreds of articles & tutorials available out there and many people intimated after watching a glimpse of it. The experts do not hesitate to show the advance level of the functions, but they are simple in-depth details. The concept of advanced is not in the dictionary of the Rainmeter developers.
- It takes time to learn the functions and spend half an hour in trying new skins, and testing out settings.
- Every layout is different and it comes with different options and settings, so you have to adapt to it.
- Almost 90% of the library offers the layouts for free.
- Make sure to have a good CPU (Quad-core with 2 GB of RAM).
- Invest a few minutes a day to learn about the new developments & designs.
Overall, a customizable program does not let you down whatsoever. Let us know what do you think about the Rainmeter in the comment section below.
