It’s not new that technology has completely changed the world only for the better by touching and benefiting most of the industries out there, especially in the last few decades.

The Construction Industry is one of those industries that not only tasted from it but acknowledged how innovative tech is and how efficient the industry can become, saving time and money at the same time.

In an industry as physically-demanding and strenuous as construction, this additional overhead can be integral in making or breaking a construction company, with those savings able to be reinvested into your business. That means more resources, new hires, and more training opportunities for your staff, which itself can be a cost-cutting measure by preventing worksite accidents and injuries. Employers increasingly turn to 360 Training when implementing OSHA 10 online training for their staff.

Here are five ways technology has revolutionized the construction industry so far.

  • 2 2) Drones for site surveillance
  • 3 3) Building Information modeling
  • 4 4) Laser scanning
  • 5 5) GPS Tracking

1) 3D Printing For Modeling And Designing

The first and most effective way the technology has helped it was by introducing the three-dimensional object printing technology. It is a software used to build life-dimensions forms with various materials from only one digital file.

3D printing is the invention that brought the industry the most valuable thing in the world: TIME. Before it came out, all the modeling, designing, and paper planning were handmade done, something that didn’t only took long but was hard as well.

The workers couldn’t focus on their creativity or solving essential solutions because they were too busy building something that could’ve been easy made by machines.

Nowadays, whole houses are produced by 3D printing, making the traditional jobs completely unnecessary, leaving the architects free to concentrate more on their creativity and productivity rather than simple manual work.

Also, since using 3D printing, the material waste such as waste of plastics and extruded concrete has been reduced substantially.

Moreover, 3D printed consumer products are enabled for direct sharing of designs for detailed feedback and can spot the errors much faster and easier with dire financial applications.

Without a doubt, 3D printing is going to evolve even more and will be utilized more widely for construction applications as well as other infrastructural units of the construction industry.

2) Drones for site surveillance

Drones are the best tools for reviewing that technology can provide, bringing the ability to get a real-time overview and valuable insights into the worksite. Drones are an Inspection Software able to be controlled automatically, providing qualitative high-definition imagery.

Architects use this feature not only to inspect and to keep track of the progress but also to search for potential issues like damages, physical problems, and structural integrity in general.

Considering their small size, drones are being flown around the site without a problem. Drones are easy to control, so the risk of damaging the area is shallow. The footage is automatically converted in 3D, giving the architects the opportunity to observe the site in architectural plans type of quality video in real-time.

Using drones, there is no need for the workers to go down or up to see what’s happening or checking something specific out, which not only speeds up the process but minimizes the risk to humans as well. Drones are highly effective for detecting the small but essential things like traffic cones that have been moved out.

3) Building Information modeling

Designing has never been more comfortable and more complicated since the release of the 3D computers aided drafting. It is a building information modeling software highly used in this industry for all kinds of products.

Companies use this tool to design and model whole buildings reducing the time, effort made, and the risk of mistakes made during the planning. It basically allows them to build full constructions entirely digital-made. In order to ensure that the project plan is working in terms of infrastructural curbs, architects usually mix building information modeling with geographic information systems.

Also, this software can determine energy management statistics like detecting how much the heating and lighting of the building will cost…

4) Laser scanning

The laser scanner is another inspection software meant for meticulous worksite analyzing. This high-definition surveying captures detailed geometric information about particular objects, giving precise statistics of the condition of the workplace.

The software is specifically designed to capture existent condition problems that the human eye can’t see.

It has the property of getting a 360-degree review breaking down every pixel within a radius of 50 meters. The invention does not only get workers out of the hassle but also assures the safety and progression of the project.

5) GPS Tracking

Now, software without hardware is meaningless. GPS tracking devices are a key component that every company is turning on.

GPS hardware is installed in every vehicle allowing everyone to communicate and see where each worker is via satellite. It’s the best way to provide instant data of the area and workplace conditions to report on the home base where the information will be perceived for further operations.

GPS tracking boosts up the inventory and risk management as well as saving the manager’s time. Also, the manager can now verify instantly if the equipment is either on-site, delivered to another location, or even stolen, something the drones will get sure to report.
