It is a general rule of thumb that employee productivity is not determined by whether they work in the office or remotely. A large friendly team sitting in an office, in a beautiful huge building with sky-high rent, can bring you a minimum of profit. While remote employees scattered all over the world, working while sitting in a cafe or on the beach, can please you with the decent revenue that you will immediately feel.

Of course, this is not an undeniable truth, and everything can be vice versa since productivity is determined not by geography, but by a whole complex of factors. This article will examine tips and tricks which will help manage freelancers effectively.

Tips and tricks for effective management

Tip 1. It is always better to clearly describe the task for which you are hiring a freelancer. The more detailed and more accurately describe the task, the clearer for the remote employee will be the direction in which you need to move.

Tip 2. Use a system of fines and rewards. Often freelancers drag out the deadlines for a project. To prevent this from happening, it is a good idea to introduce a system of fines, having previously agreed on the amount for one day of delay. You can affect the speed of the work by paying a premium for the early completion of the assignment.

Actually, as for the system of fines, there were cases in Canada when freelancers were idle during their working hours and instead played Canadian online Baccarat games. They became so engaged in playing various casino games that employers questioned the efficiency of their work. The irony was that they were working on the graphic design of a particular betting website, and they sneaked to casino games for entertainment. Of course, they were fined for such behavior.

Mostly, because a simple mistake can cause a bunch of other problems and also sometimes remote working does not seem to be an effective method. Therefore they try to use tracking programs, which shows whether a freelancer is working or spending time in other activities.

Tip 3. Break a large task into several stages. Such a work process will be morally easier for the employee to perceive, and it will be much easier for you to control the execution of tasks at each stage in terms of time and quality.

You will enjoy working with freelancers if you can competently motivate and control employees. And here you cannot do without leadership skills. Therefore, remember when working with freelancers that the leader should be included in the work process as often as possible and clearly plan the stages of the assignments, indicate the time and quality criteria for the work performed.
