Lost Ark, an award-winning South Korean MMORPG, is among the largest MMORPGs currently in existence. Lost Ark is a Korean MMO developed by Smilegate RPG that premiered in 2018 before being localised in English and delivered to the west through cooperation with Amazon Games. Lost Ark soared to the top of the Steam rankings upon its initial release on Steam, with over 1 million players, making it the most played game of all the time on Steam. On Steam, it has surpassed titles like Dota 2, CS: GO, and PUBG in terms of concurrent players.
Lost Ark’s Birth
Its recent popularity isn’t proof that the Lost Ark is a brand new game. Lost Ark isn’t a brand-new game. Game development started in 2011 under a code name called Project T. The first mention of it appears on the Unreal Engine website, where it is described as a “blockbuster action MMORPG” with “stunning visuals made possible by Unreal Engine 3”. In 2014, various developer diaries offered glimpses of the game’s world, combat and characters, but the full launch did not occur in Korea until December 2018. Smilegate, a South Korean video game company, originally published the game. However, it was only available in specific locations, such as Russia and Japan. Despite this, the dark fantasy game’s player base grew steadily, attracting the attention of industry Amazon Studios, who bought the rights and released it in the west. Since then, the numbers have exploded.
Lost Ark Gameplay
In contrast to many popular MMOs, Lost Ark features an isometric 2.5D view. Essentially, you’ll be playing the game from the top down.
While it’s an MMO, the game stresses PvE and exploration. Players will engage in questing, achievement/collectable hunting, crafting, looting, and other activities in addition to the fast-paced hack and slash combat.
Once you’ve entered Arkesia’s vast, dynamic universe, you’re free to explore the seven continents and oceans, learn about civilisations, fight mythological animals, and search for forgotten riches.
The plot appears to be as straightforward as the battle. You’re an explorer who’s travelled to a new continent searching for the titular lost Ark, a powerful relic that can help you defeat an army of demons.
At the outset, you’re given a handful of skills that you may combine to create strong combos, which are essential in dungeons where foes outnumber you. It is pretty enjoyable to engage in combat. Taking down an entire gang with one sword blow is like a triumph lap. It’s as fun to spin in a circle, crushing any opponents that dare to approach my death whirlwind. Bosses aren’t tough to deal with mostly, they are damaged sponges with numerous health bars.
Going alone is just as enjoyable because you enjoy the cinematic story-driven campaign for free. It has 15 playable classes that you may choose from at the start of your adventure, each with its own appearance, talents, and weaponry that are suited to your physical build and gender. You may then join forces with other players on the server to perform a variety of quests for XP (experience points) or loot for upgrades to aid you in combat.
For example, certain tasks are usually locked behind a levelling system in games like World of Warcraft. As a result, you must achieve level 25 before proceeding to the necessary sections of the game. It’s also tied to a monthly membership plan.
You’ll pass through more than 50 zones on your way to max level, yet you’ll never spend more than a few minutes in any of them. Typically, a quest chain introduces you to a character and then sends you across the zone four or five times, back and forth from that character, before moving on to the next. Whereas most MMOs need you to complete a series of related tasks, Lost Ark simply requires you to complete one or two side quests. You must read a tablet, kill three zombies, or pick up and place a barrel a few yards away. Furthermore, the tasks are always completed in a matter of seconds.
Though visually stunning and powerful, fighting in Raiders of the Lost Ark is simple: point, click, win. Luckily, if click-to-move doesn’t work for you, Lost Ark includes gamepad compatibility.
With rich backstory, compelling backstories, and a variety of dramatic adventures to do, It has everything you’d expect from a dark fantasy . There’s a lot more to it, but Lost Ark doesn’t feel like a story-driven game. It’s a clickfest in which the numbers rise, and your opponents burst in all kinds of mind-bending ways. It’s a game to play when you don’t want to be committed but just be engaged, to while away the time, sometimes the body simply wants something to do, a game to keep it occupied as it goes through the motions. Lost Ark does a great job with it.
